Last week, the Animal Rescue League of Boston took in three Pit Bulls from the Humane Society of the United States, the Boston Herald reports. They’d been with the Humane Society since September, when they rescued them from a large alleged dog fighting operation in South Carolina last year.

Birch, Frida, and Sadiri are all aged between two and three. And since arriving at the rescue, they’ve had the healthcare treatment they need. One had some teeth extracted while another had a mass removed. The other needs medication for allergies that cause skin irritation, explained the ARL’s media relations officer Mike DeFina.

He shared that all three pups are sweet and affectionate, but that Sadiri is still a little timid in shy. She’ll be heading to a foster home before she’s ready to find her forever home. However, Birch and Frida will be placed up for adoption very soon.

What’s amazing about animals like this coming from such tough situations is that they are tough, they are resilient,” Mike said. “When they see people who are loving and caring and just want to take care of them, they really latch onto that.”

The ARL is used to taking in animals who’ve had difficult times. However, Mike described dog fighting as “kind of a special circumstance”. After all, it’s a felony punishable with up to five years in federal prison.

Authorities seized the three dogs, along with almost 300 others, from various properties in the city of Columbia in September last year. “Unfortunately, it’s one of those things that still exists,” Mike said. “We haven’t taken in animals from a dog fighting situation in quite some time.

“It is inspiring to see these dogs rebound from everything they’ve been through and see their resilience and strength come out like that,” he finished. “It never gets old seeing this type of happy ending for an animal.”
