Catch dog having an accident

QUESTION:

What do you do if you catch your dog urinating in the house?

answered by Jim Burwell

ANSWER:

Immediately interrupt the urination and tell your dog, "No!" Then, quickly pick him up and take him to the proper place outside. Say your cue word for elimination, and then praise and treat your dog for going in the right place.

Important: do not punish or scold your pup for urinating inside. That will only make him extremely anxious and insecure. While inside the house but outside of his crate, it's your job to supervise your dog. If you can't supervise him, put your dog in a secure area where he won't damage anything valuable if he has an accident.

AvatarWe adopted a 4 year old non nuetered male Cocker Spaniel almost 1 year ago. We have since had him fixed. Although he is taken outside regularly, he continues to urinate and defecate in the house. We have tried throughly cleaning the area and spraying it with the pet deterant products to no avail. Help!” — cabnbay, Oct 13 2008
