Tails of Hope

Dogtime’s Road to Rescue program salutes Tails of Hope, promoting wellness in the minds, hearts, and bodies of all living things

How did your organization get started?

Tails of Hope started in August of 2000. As a volunteer in a local shelter, I watched so many young, adoptable animals being euthanized and knew that many of them could be saved from this tragedy and placed in loving homes. Tails of Hope obtained a 501(c)(3) status and opened our doors to the first animal.

Ted E. Bear, a success story

What is your mission?

Tails of Hope Sanctuary fosters healthy relationships among people, animals, and the earth by rescuing animals in need, teaching humane and environmental education, and promoting wellness in the minds, hearts, and bodies of all living things.

How do most of your animals find their way to you?

Tails of Hope takes in animals from area shelters when they call us for help. Either the shelter is full or they have an animal who needs additional help recovering from an injury or illness.

What happens to the animals once they are in your care?

The animals are placed in foster homes until adopted. Tails of Hope does operate a small Cattery where cats coming into rescue can live in a cage-free environment.

Tell us about a particularly compelling animal or inspiring rescue.

Ted E. Bear was a sweet, homeless puppy wandering the streets of Baltimore, MD. Although he solicited attention from people on the street, he was mostly ignored. He was witnessed being kicked by someone on a street corner and was found to have a burn mark on his back as well as a broken leg. When this dear little guy was finally picked up, Tails of Hope was asked to take him into rescue. After getting Ted E. Bear the surgery necessary for his leg injury and some much-needed TLC, this puppy was placed in a loving home and is enjoying life today with his family. Ted E. Bear is one of our all time favorites at Tails of Hope!
