Dr. Camille Ward received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor studying cognition and the development of social cognition in domestic dogs. Before that, Dr. Ward's Master's Degree focused on the study of vigilant behavior in foraging American crows. Her research has contributed to scientific knowledge of the behavior of a wide variety of species. In addition to her work on dogs, and crows, she has also conducted behavioral studies on lemurs (a type of primate) and a variety of fish species. Dr. Ward has lectured nationally and internationally at scientific conferences, where she has presented her research findings on dog cognition and social behavior. She teaches a class called "Dog Cognition, Behavior, and Welfare" at the University of Michigan, and she has published on animal behavior in a variety of scientific journals. Dr. Ward's current research focuses on dog-dog social interactions and understanding ways in which they negotiate their social relationships. She combines scientific research with abundant applied knowledge of dog behavior. In 1999, she started her own dog training business specializing in pet dog training and private behavioral consultations. Her training philosophy stresses relationship building and working from the dog's point of view. She recently completed a book on dog obedience and behavior entitled Relationship Training for a Well-Behaved Dog (available from www.dogwise.com).
