another dog
I am retired and wanted a puppy to train and keep me company while my hubby worked. We went to an adoption fair on a whim and there was Rocky..an older dog who really needed a family.
I have four adult children (all animal lovers, as well), two grandchildren (my grandson just got home from Iraq) and 4 great-grandchildren.
I am an activist in natural family preservation and an amateur artist who has sold some paintings.
Update, 08/12/09:
Please, everyone who might read this, say one for our Rocky. He has got some serious liver and kidney problems, has a growth on his gall bladder and is facing surgery. I do think that a Higher Power led us to him because, while not wealthy by any means, we are able to get him the medical attention he needs. We don't have a prognosis, yet, but we do know it is a "do something now" situaton.

Rocky was owned, for 5 years, by an elderly man who trained him well and taught him manners. When the man was put into the hospice, his adult children decided they didn't want to fool with Rocky so he was put out on the street. Luckily, he had been microchipped as a pup and his history was available to the shelter personnel. He had been in the shelter for almost a year and his time was running out. He has been a handful because he came with a number of medical issues. BUT, he is also the most wonderful companion we could possibly have and we don't begrudge the vet bills.
