Hello, my name is Richard from the SF bay area and I am a dog trainer and walker. I guess I'll start with what got me into dog training. There was the pitbull maulings in the bay area from roughly 2003 through 2006. At that time, I adopted a red nose pitbull pup in 2004. When I started taking her to the local dog park, there would be 2 to 6 people leaving with their dogs everytime I showed up. Once a whole group of about 8 dog owners left and one of them told me it was because of my pitbull. One person came up to me saying "what is your problem owning one of those". Since then, I was determined to train my dog to have control over my unpopular pitbull and I was successful. Eventually, most of the people who left that day have changed their thoughts of my dog and now I consider them good friends for going through the experience.
There are many misconceptions about dog behavior and I believe that humans should learn more about it. For example, when two dogs are playing rough, people should be able to read the energy levels and train accordingly watching for the tipping point. I believe in letting a dog be a dog as much as possible.
I train basic obedience and recall in dogs specializing in high energy dogs. Please contact me if you want to exchange opinions, thoughts, and beliefs about dog training. I believe it's good to share our thoughts about dog behavior.
Thank you.
