What I like about my dog
Companionship
What my dog likes best about me
Companionship - constant petting
If I didn't have a dog, I'd like a...
Not an option - gotta have a dog - and cats as well.
My husband and I live on 10 acres in South Texas. We have two horses, two ring-necked doves, and chickens besides 9 dogs and 10 cats.
We moved to the country with two Rottweilers and two cats. Due to other people throwing out their animals to fend for themselves, we now also have a Doberman/Shepherd Mix, Plott Hound, Mixed Breed, and Miniature Schnauzer, a Corgidor (hybrid Welsh Corgi/Labrador Retriever), Fox Terrier, and Miniature Pinscher - plus the other 8 cats.
There have been several other dogs we have "fostered" until we could find them homes. Other cats as well have spent part of their lives with us.
She is perfect: house trained, not destructive, doesn't bark much, gets along with the other little dogs, comes when I call her, doesn't take the other dogs' food, is kind to the cats, and she loves me and shows it. I never knew a little dog could be such a blessing. How someone could dump her out, I cannot understand. We are so glad she came to our house to live. Weather permitting, she gets to go in the car with me when I run errands. She sleeps on a pillow on the bed.
Buffy misses me if I am even outside for awhile. But if I am gone an hour - oh, my - she is so excited when I return, dancing on hind legs, making little doggy noises. It is really something.
In this picture, she has on her "winter coat." She will get a trim when it warms up. She's looking fluffy and so cute!
Rocky was our first dog, and we were diligent to work with him and train him. He is very obedient and loyal. He was raised with cats and basically ignores them. He looks upon every new dog we bring into the family as an interloper but tolerates them as long as he gets his share of petting. He does intimidate the big boy dogs. He is a good guard dog, but he lets Pookie do most of the work. He lays around until she spots whatever it is that might be the problem and runs and barks. He only gets in the game so that he can take credit and look tough. Visitors are afraid of him because he is a Rott and he looks mean when he barks, but he is a big baby in reality. He sleeps beside the bed at night.
Cassie is a sweetheart. At age 6 months, she developed severe hip dysplasia. She has spent most of her life in pain. Our wonderful new vet has now done head and neck surgery on both of her hips. She is doing well. Because of her weak back legs, we have had to keep her weight down, so she is very skinny. If it weren't for her leg issue, she would be a big dog as she is rather tall. Her bark is impressive; deeper than Rocky's; and she is the leader of the dog "choir." When a train is heard or some other event takes place, she begins to sing with her head lifted straight up. The others join in, but Cassie has them outclassed. She has several different notes to her singing voice. It is rather amazing how she is totally in charge of when they start and stop their choir song. Cassie sleeps on the bed at night because she is spoiled rotten.
Pookie was a little 6-8 week old puppy when someone dumped her out in the middle of the hot summer a few years ago. She would have died if we had not found her quickly. She looked like a little bear when she was a pup, so she became "Pookie Bear." When her nose grew and her looks changed, we droped the Bear part of her name. She serves as our main alarm system since she sees and hears so well and knows when something is wrong or different. We have to keep her away from the little ones; she will hurt them. She sleeps outside in her kennel.
Franky was about 6 weeks old when someone dumped him out. He had a bad case of mange and was filled with worms. Lots of money and care later, he is a beautiful very tall Plott Hound. It was a delight to discover his breed when we took him to the vet. We had never heard of a Plott. He is a very loving, happy, energetic dog. Loves water. He does get too rough with the younger dogs, but he only wants to play. And he barks a lot, especially in Tristan's face. He also fights too aggressively with Tristan because he is jealous. He really needs another home with some young man who would show him lots of attention and teach him how to hunt. He sleeps outside in his kennel.

Tristan was dumped out on our property when he was about 2 months old. He was starved and had bad mange. We fed and treated him, and now he is beautiful. When I was trying to think of a name for him, it was like he told me: "Tristan." He is very laid back, loves to be wherever I am. He's a really good dog and does not bother the little ones or cause any trouble in the house. He sleeps outside in his kennel except that he has learned how to open it and we find him in the back yard some mornings. His full name is "Tristan Knight of the Round Table." There is just something really special about Tristan; I cannot explain it.
Little Bit showed up on the road in front of our property July 2009. We believe she had just been tossed out since the neighbor saw a truck pull up stop, someone get out, and then get back in and drive off. Shortly afterwards, my husband found Little Bit back and forth and almost getting hit by an oncoming car. She adopted us and our crew of dogs and cats. We were going to find her a home and we did - with us.
Because of her hybridized heritage, Little Bit's front legs are a physical nightmare. The vet took one look at them and declared, "I'd hate to see those legs on x-ray." After she has run around for awhile, she begins limping and the foot on one of her legs gets turned almost completely backwards. There is basically nothing that can be done.
Little Bit loves to cuddle, but her long body makes it hard for me to hold her on my lap. She has a big chair in my husband's office that she likes to get on in the evenings while he is on the computer. Despite her front leg issue, she can run really fast. She loves the big dogs and is very submissive to them, getting down real low on her belly, putting her ears back, and wagging her tail when she approaches them. We have stopped the outside play with the big dogs for fear of her back getting injured by big paws coming down too hard on her.

She's a sweet little thing who came to us because someone threw her out in September 2009. My husband had chased her away one day, but she came back. When we saw how little she was, we took her in intending to find her a home. But...she has a home now...OURS. She is a cuddler and loves to be on my lap when she gets a chance. She is a speedy little thing and can give any of the other dogs a run for their money. She knows to "go kennel" so she will get a biscuit. She sleeps in an inside kennel in the living room.

Reyna came to us in September 2009 when someone threw her out. She's a highly active young lady. She loves to run and play. We took her in intending to find her a home - we did. Ours! She likes to chase cats which is not a good thing. She knows to go kennel when she is told and she gets her biscuit. She sleeps in her inside kennel in the living room. She is afraid of the big dogs except perhaps Tristan. She is getting used to him. She likes to get in Buffy's face which Buffy does not like. Since she and Maddie came at about the same time and were kenneled together for awhile, Maddie is her closest friend. Sometimes Little Bit gets mad at her and attacks her - not good. She is "medium size" so it is kinda hard for her. She wants to jump up to be petted like the little ones, but her paws hurt me. We consider her one of the "Little Dogs."

This is Buffy. She was someone's "throw-away" and fortunately for us, she found her way to our house and our hearts.
