I love dogs and have owned them all my life. My first dog was a beagle. Since then I have owned a German Shepherd, Dalmatians (before Disney made them popular the second time), a Miniture Poodle (really my mother's dog, but she lived with me), and currently own a Golden Retreiver/Lab mix and a Black Lab. When I lost my last Dalmatian to cancer, my situation did not allow for another Dali. I did not have the time to devote to the traning that breed of dog requires. (Anyone who loves Dalis and knows the breed knows what I'm talking about.) I got my Maggie Mae,the Golden/Lab mix, when she was only 5 days old. Since I hand raised her she is my baby. Duffy, the Black Lab, was a 5 year old foster dog that never left at my request. Now that I have the time I would like to have another Dali.

Maggie is the result of an irresponsile dog owner. A mother bought a Golden Retriever for her for her kids. She was going to get the money back that she paid for the dog by having a litter of puppies. She knew nothing about breeding dogs. She allowed her out in a fenced back yard unattended while in heat. The unneutered Lab that lived next door came to visit. The statement the woman made was-I don't know what happened, he never jumped the fence before! The female got sick and could not nurse her puppies. The woman had no idea what it took to hand raise puppies, so a rescue group that I was associated with contacted me and I took two of the pups to raise. Maggie Mae was one of the sweetest puppies that I have ever seen and I fell in love. Since my 12 year old Dalmatian had been diagnosed with insulamona (a very bad from of pancreatic cancer), and the two dogs got along I kept Maggie. She is one of the dogs sweetest that I have ever owned. She loves everyone and was very easy to train.

Duffy and his mate were running loose on a busy street. His mate was hit by a car and he was guarding her. Clients of the vet that I worked for at the time stopped and picked up both dogs and brought them to our hospital. We located the owners. Because of the cost to treat the females injuries they wanted both dogs put down. There was nothing wrong with Duffy. We talked them into signing the dogs over to us. We got the female treated (she needed an orthopedic specialist) and found a Lab rescue. The rescue only had room for one dog and, of course, the took the female since she was younger. I took Duffy to foster while he was up for adoption on their web site. Needless to say, after about a month I contacted the rescue and told them that I wanted to keep Duff. Even though he was 5 years old when I got him he was easy to train and graduated from both basic and advanced training classes. I think that he is the only Lab in the world that won't retrieve and hates water!
