Milo was a law-school graduation present from my ex — I needed a non-aggressive, “guy-friendly” dog to balance out the Chow Chow in our household. I had already picked out Milo’s name, and just needed to find the dog who fit the image I had in my head and heart. Once we got there to check out the puppies, I played with all the male pups and thought I had chosen a very mellow, sweet puppy, and was about ready to take him home. As I asked him, “Are you Milo?” another puppy climbed over all the other puppies and stood up with his paws against my leg. I looked from the puppy in my arms to the puppy at my feet and asked, “Are YOU Milo?” He responded with a wag and a jump. It turns out I was holding the wrong puppy! Milo chose me, not the other way around. I took him home that day and we’ve been partners in crime ever since.
