Older cocker eating dirt/mulch and grass

I have a 14 year old spayed female cocker in good health except she has begun eating dirt or mulch? She gets feed regularly with treats so she not starving. We just dont have any idea why she is doing this. Took her to the vet, had blood work done, all came back clean. Just at a loss.

Jailed dogs are cut a break

We just never think about this part of a huge problem. It is inexcusable that dogs have to suffer again because of a person's neglect. What kind of law has to be passed to provide these innocent victims a voice in how they are treated. Kudos to her for helping these precious animals in every way that she can. This article should be sent to every animal shelter in the country so the situation will be noticed and hopefully resolved in more humane actions. Grandma animal lover

Dogs fighting or playing?

Just finished reading Dogs fighting or playing?...how can I tell the difference was just what I needed to read. My two great pry's got out of my yard, and took themselves for a "walk" ... when things got worse. A neighbor walking his unleashed Akita, met up with our self walkers, and unfortunately the man claims our 2 and 3 year old dogs attacked his so...while my female is on her back, with his Akita standing ov... Can the Michael Vick dogs be saved? At Best Friends, the answer is yes

This was really interesting, I skipped some of it. But I would really like to hear more about Timmy and the girl that drove him home. It sounds like a really cool place! I am so sad about how all these animals are abused every single SECOND! About 10 million are being abused right now. (I think that is right.)

I'm being "shunned" by my dog

I have recently found out about dog sharing, where people who can't cope through illness or infirmity or because they are suddenly working away or for whatever reason are finding it hard not to neglect their dog and wonder what to do about it. So dog sharing is where you share the care of your dog with someone else in the local community. It could be anything from occassional walks to a second home and anything in ... (continued)

Dominance: Dog training's dirty word

My 4 month old black lab has alot of energy. Sometimes, after a walk, during a walk or when just playing in the backyard he will stop, look at me then basically "atttack" me... He jumps up starts biting at me. I have tried the "ignoring" thing and the "rolling on the back and "muzzling" thing as well, he reacts better to the dominance roll. Any suggestions?

Entertainment tips for dogs

That was a nice lecture on who dogs are... but you never once answered the man's question. He obviously already has a dog, so telling him not to get one is late advise, and he obviously cares about his dog because he is taking the time to ask you the question. The proper thing to do would have been to briefly step down from your pedestal and simply respond to his question...

Training a territorial dog

My husband and I have rescued a 10 month old dog about 2 1/2 months ago. He was very timid around us at first, and did not know how to be a pet. We think he is a german shepherd-husky mix (source: vet) We had him on a leash in the house a lot at the beginning to show him it is safe and okay to be with us. He is SUCH a different dog now! He loves my husband and I and enjoys playing with other dogs. We have noti... (continued)
