FIV-Feline Immunodeficiency Virus: causes, symptoms, and treatment

Aloe vera helps FIV cats live longer, healthier lives. There is a bona fide study on the public medicine website that discusses the study and its results, and I had a vet friend evaluate it for me. But the reason I know it works is b/c my FIV cat has been taking aloe for 6 months and has been much healthier since. Prior to the aloe, he had infections his body and antibiotic shots (convenia) could not fight off. ... (continued)

K9 Advantix Side Effects?

Today I used K9 Advantix topical flea prevention on my 40lb dog. After I put it on her, she began pacing around the house and has been completely uninterested in anybody all day, she just wants to curl up in any strange corner she can find. Why is she acting this way? Is she having an allergic reaction to this product? She acted a little strange last time but I didnt think anything of it, this time...i'm not so sure. Should I stop using this product? Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

The great cat declawing debate

do unto others as you would have them do unto you. can you imagine having this done to yourself? I clip my cat's claws every 2 weeks, and I have no problems. I know that not all cats are the same, not all situations are the same, but please, it should definitely NOT the first choice!

Canine Cancer: Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Have the toe amputated immediately and get lateral radiology of the both sides of the thorax as well. I had the same exact situation with my boy Pluto who is a Scotty. Turned out to be subungual squamous cell carcinoma. I had a feeling that it was a malignancy for months and the vet just kept prescribing antibiotics. You want a high toe amputation, and if you have clean margins, Dog has a 75% chance of no recurrence. good luck to both of you.

osteochondritis dissecans

Hi, does anyone have experience with a puppy with osteochondritis dissecans? My puppy showed intermittent front leg limping at about 4-5 months. X-rays showed osteochondritis dissecans (actually in both shoulders - although no symptoms on the other side). The vet recommended restricted activity to give it a chance to heal. 2 months later, the limping was only intermittent, and a repeat x-ray suggested the the l... (continued)

Toe Pads "fused" - what to do?

The two center toe pads on BOTH of our puppy's front feet are fused/connected. (she is a female Akita) There is no involvement of the bones of the toe - they are separate. Its just that the the pad on these two toes is connected. I'm not referring to "webbed feet" which I'm familiar with - the toe pads are actually connected. This is obviously a congenital issues and I've never seen anything like it be... (continued)

The Great Cat Declawing Debate

I had one cat declawed years ago, i did it because she couldnt hear, and if she got outside, she would get herself in a tree and stay there for long periods of time before anyone would find her (yes she did this several times) If you called for the cat, she never called back. When we did get her back, she was thin, and beaten a bit by the elements. I now have 4 cats, one indoor outdoor, the others strictly indoors.... (continued)

The Great Cat Declawing Debate

You have to take into consideration that there could be special circumstances. I have had many, many cats and refused to declaw any of them - until this last one - I am very allergic to cats, and when the cat allergies "kick in" so-to-speak, I have problems w/ my asthma. Just being around cats doesn't make it all that bad, but if I'm scratched by one, the area swells up and turns red and painful - and then all th... (continued)

Canine Myasthenia-Gravis

I have done much research on this desease, but have yet to find a reasonable explanation as to HOW a dog aquires this deadly illness. I had a 10 year old, spayed female mixed breed dog...as far as I knew, she was German Shepard/Dobie or Rott...always in good health, and as a youn dog, extremely athletic. Gypsy was my soul mate, my co-pilot in life, and I know I'll miss her for the rest of my life...she was simply ... (continued)
