Avatari bought a beautiful puppy 9 weeks old it is the most aggressive and hperactive puppy i have ever had or seen, it is a border collie puppy and i have one grown border collie already. we cannot leave her alone or trust her around children because of the aggresstion. we are trying to send her back to the breeder. is there hope for a puppy like this?” — david , Nov 22 2009

Img025_thumbnailAnytime you plan on adopting a dog from a shelter, the whole family should meet the dog. I always suggest meeting the dog more than once and interacting. I hope you didn't know these problems and then decided on adopting anyway. This dog seems to be a threat to chidlren and adults alike. I do not think this is the dog for you. He will soon become a liability. He can, perhaps, be rehabilitated, but I believe your family is not the place to start. Do the right thing for the family, as well as let the shelter have your opinion on releasing this type of dog to a family with children. ” — cowgirlchick78, May 04 2009

Img025_thumbnailIf you are unsure that you can't handle this situation, I would definitely return the dog to the shelter. Remember, a dog with these types of problems are only rehabilitated, not cured of their aggressive tendencies. I am disturbed that a shelter would have released a dog with these types of behavior problems to a family with children and to someone inexperienced with dealing in these types of problems in dogs. I am surprised, too, that if the shelter performed a personality and temperament test on this dog, that they felt it was okay to release the dog to your family... any family with children.” — cowgirlchick78, May 04 2009

AvatarWe have just recently (2wks) adopted a 7yr. 6mo. Female Miniture Pinscher/Chihuahua for our girls age 10 & 15. The dog will be spay in Aug. definately has had litters. She is very aggressive towards other animals and has just started nipping and growling and a couple days ago tried to bite our neighbors 3 yr. old for no reason and last night turned on me when I tried to pick her up for bed, nipped at me twice. Where not sure what to do. Can anyone help advise? She also doesn't like men although she has warmed up to my husband. We don't know if we should bring her back or not.” — Mssandi2000, Apr 20 2009
