“My Rat-Cha, Rocky, was traumatized by being abandoned by his owner's children when his owner passed away (information available because he was microchipped). He spent 11 months in the local shelter before we adopted him. He had severe SA in the beginning but we have been giving him Melatonin tablets twice a day (natural..not narcotic) and, when we leave, we leave the television, lamp and ceiling fan on. He has weathered two 2-hour separations, now, without any destructive behavior. We also do not make a "big deal" out of leaving. We use a kennel for longer separations, but are going to slowly increase the time apart and see if that works. Robin, Rocky's Mommie.”

“I recently adopted a 5 year old Minpin and he goes crazy when hes left alone, no matter how short the time. I am not sure what to do with him as my neighbors are starting to complain about his barking, which only occurs when he is alone.”

“My dog "CORNDOG" has this problem when I'm gone. The funny thing is that he isn't alone, my roommate is still there when the behaviors happen. ”

“The more time I spend with Cracker the worse the SA is, so if I notice her being clingy I put her on ignore for periods of time (day, couple of days) and then she improves. She still gets fed, walked etc but no "clingy" affection or over attention.”

“This separation anxiety seems to get worse with age. It seems we can't go anywhere without Dagwood or we get this really sad face and makes us feel rotten.”
