AvatarAnother great site to help manage your diabetic dog is http://forum.caninesupportgroup.com/
I managed my Husky by doing curves weekly and using a human meter to test morning, noon and mid afternoon. I used her callous on her front elbow. I also changed her injection sites often for better absorption.
Diabetes is manageable as long as the pet owner becomes the dogs advocate for care.
BTW This site i above is awesome !!! They are here to help with whatever question or concerns you may have. And all of them there have or have had a diabetic dog. So not only are they informative but will give you hands on advice as well.

AvatarP.S. Another great site for diabetic pet owners is k9diabetes.com. Don't give up, I recently lost my toy, age 14 years, to cardiac heart failure but managed his diabetes for 3 years. Good luck and let me know if I can help further.” — jrice1939, Nov 11 2008

AvatarYes, try using the tail since this is an area normally shaved with a slight pom-pom at the end. Be sure to warm the area beforehand to stimulate blood flow...usually a moistened warm washcloth will suffice, holding it for a few minutes followed by a brisk puppy-rub to the area. Also, spraying the area with a tad of Dermaplast or other human topical burn reliever will desensitize the area if it continues to be a problem...just remove the agent with a damp rag and dry with a towel before pricking.” — jrice1939, Nov 11 2008

AvatarI have a newly diagnosed Insulin dependent Diabetic toy poodle. I have been instructed to do her blood sugar testing (Glucometer) from small pricks in her mouth (gums)..when testing her initially, as a couple days progressed she became so frightened she started trembling and loses bladder control when the time comes...We try to make it the best experience possible for her...sharp needles/testers etc...now I am face with trying to attempt a 2 hr. blood monitoring curve for the whole...I don't know what to do..
ANY HELP IN THOUGHTS/PRACTICES/SITES TO USE WOULD BE A BLESSING...PLEASE HELP
Thank You....Molly-mae” — Molly-mae, Jun 22 2008
