“My new rescue dog Zig is a female who wonder to our home - We have welcomed her in took her to the vet and are working on making her a memberof our family. She is doing great but is a little sad over being confined to the house and a leash. She actually had enjoyed the freedom of wondering the streets. How can we help her adjust to the house and leash - We have another dog who is 10 and ofcourse she is a little jealous and pouting - Any suggestions”

“Okay i have noticed that my puppy has changed alot. I think he is depressed because all the signs that this has discribed are how my dog acts. My cousin lives right across the street from me && has recently lost her puppy, & her puppy was my puppys brother, they always played together everyday. && I dont really know what to do for him, i try to comfort him & try my best to feed him but he just doesnt want to eat.. Its making me sad to see him that way. He used to be so playful. & Cant afford a vet for him.. Shit i cant even afford a doctor for myself. But idont know what to do for him.”

“My dog is currently going through all the symptoms of depression. Her appetite has gone to hell in a handbasket, although she has no problems scarfing down "junk food." Normally pretty independent, she now follows me around like a shadow. She is sleeping more than usual or just lying around. But sometimes she forgets herself and starts acting "normal"--which for her is bouncing off the walls! Why would she be depressed? Well, let's see. She hates thunderstorms and we seem to be in a pattern with a minimum of two very loud stormy days a week. The city recently decided to whack down several street trees so that racket is going nonstop while I'm off at work. And as if my dog's nerves weren't already shot, she was involved in a dog fight...no serious injuries...about a week ago. So yeah, she's major league bumming right now!!! I'm keeping an eye on her in case there might be a physical ailment going on too but I'd be willing to bet that it's all psychological. ”

“Rose, the TV/radio might help. (Just make sure it's tuned to a soothing human voice, not loud music or angry talk show hosts, for instance.) You might also consider hiring a dog walker or trustworthy neighbor to come by midday and give her a walk and some attention. You can try feeding her her meals in hollow chewtoys that she gets when you leave, to distract her from missing everyone. And, some quality time on the weekends might help. Good luck!”

“I am so glad I checked the web and found this page. Some of the explanations might be just why my Great Dane has gotten a case of depression. Everything about him has changed recently and I am wit's end. This article answered a lot of questions for me. I think I will print it out and give it to my husband, then maybe we can work together to help my Great Dane "get out of his blues". Thanks a million for the advice.”
