Teaching your dog to be comfortable when you're out of the house is one of your most important training tasks. Find out whether you're doing all you can to speed his learning by answering these simple questions.

Is your dog okay at home alone?

1. Whenever you leave the house without your dog, you give him something to chew on or play with:
Most of the time
Sometimes
When I remember
2. When you leave your dog home alone:
He usually chews on his toys or sleeps
He waits by the door for me to return
I can hear him barking from down the street
I sometimes come home to scratched doors and stained carpets
3. If your dog could describe his time alone, he'd say:
"I love it! Freedom, chew toys, and a chance for some shut-eye."
"I don't mind it. There are always rawhides to gnaw on and naps to take."
"I can handle it, but I'm much happier when my person is around."
"I don't like it at all. I'm scared, bored, and lonely by myself."
