Is it worth it to buy pet insurance if your dog is not a puppy?
Pet insurance is there to safeguard you against vet bills for accidents and illnesses. While puppies might be more accident prone, it’s not unheard of for something to happen to an older pet. If your older pet has been generally healthy all his or her life, this is actually still a good time to insure your pet as any illnesses that occur down the road would likely still be covered. Since pet insurance will usually not cover any pre-existing conditions, the pet owner should be aware that insuring an older pet may present more exclusions than if you were to insure the same pet at a much younger age.
But like I said, even if your pet does have a lot of pre-existing conditions, it’s still possible for those unexpected accidents to happen! If you’re looking to insure older pets, I would recommend checking out various companies and finding out their policies on insuring older pets as well as how those monthly premiums might go up. For example, many pet insurance companies have age limits and many insurance companies greatly increase monthly premiums as the pet ages.
