Major issues await President-elect Barack Obama when he moves into the White House on January 20, 2009. But right now, to his daughters Sasha and Malia at least, nothing is as important as adopting the puppy he famously promised them if he won the election.

It turns out the White House is not the only dwelling that will soon be home to a new canine resident. Vice President-elect Joe Biden has told reporters his wife Jill promised him a "big dog" if he was elected, and even taped pictures of various large-breed dogs to the seatback in front of him on the campaign plane for inspiration.

The Obamas have said they will adopt the next White House dog, but from where? Will the Bidens rescue a dog as well? What breed--or breeds--will the Obama dog and Biden dog be? Will the presidential dogs get along? And what dog names will they choose for their furry new friends?

Visit our new blog, Obama's Dog Blog: Tails from the White House, for all the latest news on the presidential and vice-presidential dog search.
