Neutering sterilizes a male dog so he's incapable of parenting puppies. Many, many wonderful health and behavioral effects occur because he's undergone "the big snip." It's a simple surgery, far more so than a spay. Under anesthesia, an incision is made in front of the scrotum, and then the...

It's a lie about health, especially prostate diseases. Castration can cause prostate cancer and others. There are less harmful methods of birth control, such as vasectomy. Also read Wikipedia at least: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutering#Disadvantages

I have four cats with this operation. They're all heavy. I had a vasectomy too and I'm pretty heavy. There must be some relationship regardless of the specie. In my case I'm pretty energetic though. monroewille PA

I got my dog neutered and I'm not happy about it. He now has a very high-pitched bark, versus before when his bark was more deeper and menacing. Not good.....as the main reason we got him was to scare away burglars. Also, I have noticed that he now prances around in a very feminine manner. It's almost like he has turned gay. That's all I need for him to start showing interest in male dogs around the neighborhood.

If you had a bad experience it has to do with the vet or animal clinic that you used. Neutering and spaying is safe and extends their life. Don't buy into nonsense about it being unsafe.

I had my puppy neutered seven days ago and he is every bit as happy, playful, confident as ever! I have had dogs for over forty years and I am very confident the norm for neutering is all positive. Your dog will have a healthier, happier life AND SO WILL YOU! Many of the problems that drive you nuts with a dog will never occur. Don't look for your pup to be depressed and don't over feed him! He will continue to live happily with you and expect you to do the same.

We just neutered our yellow lab last week, and today was the first day back at the dog park. WHAT a difference!! He plays more, and humps less. His focus has improved, and he just seems a lot happier. A dog does not need his testicles to be happy (as I read below)... dogs can detect a females in heat and when they are not fixed, that can actually make him "crazy" if he cant get to her. Spay/neuter your animals....there are too many being euthenized :(

if you are not a breeder who is properly licensed and committed to the preservation etc of the breed, your dog absolutely should be spayed or neutered. to he poster who claims your dog 'sad' my lab is even more happygolucky than before fixing.. maybe you should try changing things up for your dog to keep him interested/ engages (ie- agility training or something of that nature). its irresponsible to advocate not spay/neuter in an age when shelter are overflowing.(and we all know the outcome when that happens)

I have a 9/10 month old dachaund and he is so hyper and he plays too rough with our children so he is constantly in his crate for playing too rough and lately he has been peeing in the house...everything I have tried doing he still doesn't learn...do you think fixing him would help?

My son and his girlfriend brought their 10 month old akita in to be neutered. They called the vet later in the day to see when they could pick him up. The vet office said he was having complications and they would have to keep him over night. Wouldn't you think they would have someone there overnight to keep an eye on him? Nope. He was left alone and found dead the next morning by the janitor.
