“My Bordie Collie I rescued from a shelter is one of the best decisions I've ever made. She is extremely intelligent and a joy to be around. People choose different breeds for different reasons. If treated properly, your dog will provide companionship and unconditional love to you. ”

“Well, ease of training and intelligence are not COMPLETELY different. It does take a certain kind of intelligence to learn commands and understand what people are saying. And no, that kind of intelligence is in no way "simple," it's actually very complicated. However there are lots of different kinds of intelligence. That's why it's so difficult to rate intelligence. I don't think it's possible to determine what breed of dog is the "smartest." However, I would say without hesitation that dogs that are bred for work, personality, and problem-solving abilities, are WAY more intelligent than dogs that are bred for looks first (show dogs).”

“There have been studies to show the difference between easy to train and intelligence. A show on Nat.Geographic tonight 12-28-08 showed true thought processing. For example: a dog was shown 2 objects on a tv screen and 1 would equal a treat while the other would be a big red screen and no treat. It was interesting to see how the dog would react to new objects and exclude the objects based on previous results.
I think the reason Border Collies are always linked to being the smart dog is their desire to please and being so trainable. The brain of a lab is the same as the brain of a Border Collie are the same. ”

“I have always wonder, how is dog intelligence measured? Is it actually intelligence or the easiness of training (which in humans would not reflect intelligence)? Just a thought!”
