ADOPTABLE DOG

Boomer , MA

FROM THE SHELTER:

Please contact PIN (pindogs@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.

Boomer is a very handsome, smiley, 1-1/2-year-old neutered male. He is microchipped and up to date on all his shots. Boomer is just an all-around awesome dog: he has no separation anxiety, no food aggression, is very well-behaved (no digging in the trash or counter-surfing!), and does not need a crate. He is currently in a foster home with a senior dog whom he loves; when he's left alone, he simply sleeps...he's totally mellow!

Boomer does exhibit fear of large dogs, such as German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers...possibly the result of an experience in his 'former life,' and will feel threatened by them. He is in doggy day care in the small dogs group, because he absolutely loves them and feels comfortable around them. He has completed a 12-week obedience class at Allbreeds and received his Canine Good Citizen award. Though he will pull on the leash, he does well with a SPORN halter and should continue to improve with training. Boomer loves to be outside, ride in the car, play ball, and chew toys (his one 'expensive' habit...he will rip his chew toys to shreds, so needs a new one pretty regularly. It's worth it to see how much fun he has!)

Boomer is EXTREMELY affectionate - when it comes to love, he thinks he is a chihuahua. He sits IN your lap while you are watching TV, and snuggles his head under your arm. He also sleeps in the bed, usually burrowing completely under the covers or lying right up against you with his head on the pillow. We can't stress enough how sweet and good with people he is.

Boomer's ideal home would be in a house off by itself, not in a crowded neighborhood where he is constantly distracted by dogs walking by his yard. He would love a family with a fenced in yard, another active (preferably small- to medium-sized) dog to play with, and NO cats or other smaller animals. He does have a very strong prey drive - he goes after chipmunks with incredible intensity and it's really hard to break his focus.

A house with children under 8 is not recommended, not because Boomer would be aggressive in any way, but because he is so active and could accidentally knock them over. He has been around kids of all ages, including infants, and he just sniffs and licks them!

Boomer is a wonderful dog and will continue to thrive in a loving home with 'his' family.
