COOPER
Deaf Male Neutered 9 month old Boxer

Cooper is a 9 month old , Deaf , Neutered Male Boxer who was scheduled to
be euthanized at the Holmes County Dog Pound
Cooper is a very sweet , active, energetic young dog who hasn't had much training
    in his life
Cooper was picked up running stray in Holmes County Oh with no prior history
    available on him
Cooper found himself in dire straights as Holmes County is an Ohio Kill Shelter

We were contacted by a Holmes County Volunteer at the Animal Shelter to help
save Cooper's life since he had been
at the shelter for more than four weeks without any interest in him by adopters
    or boxer rescue organizations

Thank goodness we were able to find a loving foster home willing to offer
Cooper a second chance at life so that we were able to save his life
Thanks to our wonderful
CODA parents( to our adopted Amazing Boxer Kong) for agreeing to foster Cooper
    to save his life

We were filled here at our main facility when the plea for help for Cooper
    arrived
So without the help of our wonderful foster homes dogs like Cooper would be
    dead instead of happily playing
and learning house manners

Cooper caught a ride to Cleveland from the shelter courtesy of our wonderful
    Board Member Jon Drake
Cooper's first stop when he arrived in Cleveland was at his foster home where
he was able to run and play for a while
and received a good bath, before settling in for the night
Cooper is very thin , has a sore spot in his left front paw and needs to learn
proper play interaction with other friendly dogs
and also needs major work on his leash manners
He is very loving with humans but somewhat unattentive which is a common problem
    with incoming older deaf dogs
who hsven't been taught " sign language" communication with their
human caretakers during their very important formative first six months of
    life

Cooper's first stop the next morning was at our Vet's office to be examined
    by Dr. Brian
Dr Brian diagnosed the following health issues with Cooper
Cooper has a slight heart murmur and an upper respitory infection which could
worsen with hard play and running
So Cooper was prescribed antibiotics and crate rest for the next two weeks
    wtih controlled exercise sessions

Cooper also has a major digestive tract upset and was experiencing severe
    diareah
Cooper will be on a special diet of boiled hamburger and rice for a few days
    along with his stomach medication

Cooper is now up to date on his DHLPP and Rabies Vaccinations
Cooper's intial vet bill = $130.00

After all the excitement of getting out of the shelter alive and visiting
    the Veterinarian
Cooper then rode with his foster mom to his foster home and to get some rest
    and start his medications

Cooper rode pretty well in the car coming in from the shelter but pulls like
a maniac on a leash right now
Once Copper is feeling a bit better we will start his leash manners training

We will have updated information on Cooper early next week after he has time
to settle in and get his health problems under control
