FROM THE SHELTER:

Hi, my name is Cocoa and I am an 8-year-old chocolate lab. The volunteers at the shelter tell me my name fits me perfectly because I am sweet like hot cocoa, and I sure do love people. I am still trying to figure out how I ended up in the shelter. My family had me since I was a puppy and they loved me almost as much as I loved them. But then things changed. It started when they brought a new dog into the house and the other dog and I just couldnÂ’t see eye-to-eye and I guess I somehow picked the short straw because they decided to keep the other dog and get rid of me. My Dad dropped me off to the shelter representative in a parking lot and my family has never even called once to see how I was doing. It kind of makes me sad because I loved them so and miss them. But I always try to look at the bright side of life and am so thankful that they take such good care of me at the shelter. It was an adjustment for me at first because I was so used to being in a home with my family but I am doing great here now and am learning how to get along with other dogs. My volunteer friends at the shelter take me for long walks in the woods which I absolutely love, and sometimes I get to go on walks with the other dogs. There are so many good things to sniff out there and I certainly try to sniff them all! My two-legged friends tell me I walk very good on a leash/harness and they tell me they are so proud of me which makes me so happy. I think they do like me here because they give me lots of treats which almost makes me as happy as going on walks! What would make me the happiest though would be to find a new forever home. I really do miss my old family and I would love to have a second chance to show a new family just how sweet I can be, just like my name Cocoa. Please come visit me at the shelter so you can see that I will melt in your hands, not like cocoa or chocolate, but because I love people so much and dream to be a part of a family again. Although I am fostered in Tennesse, there are 2 transports that leave weekly taking newly adopted dogs to New England so please consider me even if you do not live in the local area.
