'just a donation' deep from the heart!!
Hello I am Jasmine and I am a wonderful senior mini red dachshund! I worked really hard to put on some weight in rescue and I now weigh 9 pounds. You may ask yourself how I ended up in rescue at my age and I ask myself the same thing. Because I am heading back to bed, my foster mom will fill you in on all of the details.
Jasmine was pulled from a kill shelter in Houma, LA. She was an owner surrender and the shelter told us that her family brought her in because 'she was 17 years old.' However they also said Jasmine was spayed and she was not so we are sure they are wrong about her age too. The veterinarians who treated Jasmine have all agreed that she cannot be 17 years but instead must be closer to 12 or 13. They feel her 'owners' definitely were confused since they were wrong about her medical history. Since coming into rescue Jasmine was spayed and as a suspicious tumor was removed. Thankfully it turned out to be benign. She also had two nasal fistulas that were repaired. The vet feels that Jasmine was a breeder dog who was no longer useful to her owners and that was the reason she was dumped. . Jasmine has an adorable tongue hanging out of the mouth look and is the proud owner of 5 teeth!. Don't let this fool you though because she LOVES to eat three times a day but must have canned food - California Naturals Chicken and Brown Rice is her favorite. Jasmine loves to nap and roam in the backyard and sit by her human. She is very spry and will make an afternoon out of walking around outside in the backyard. She does not like to sleep in the big bed but prefers her own bed or that of her foster brother. When Jasmine is hungry she has a loud bark to announce this to you. It is adorable because she becomes very animated. She dances while you make her food, tapping her feet on the ground and backing up and moving forward until she is fed. Jasmine cannot hear very well but this does not stop her from going after the cats in her foster home. She will respond when you call her IF she feels like it. If not Queen Jasmine pretends she never heard you. Jasmine is not particularly fond of children, even the respectful ones, so this makes me think that she was teased by children in her past. Jasmine uses the bathroom on a pee pee pad next to her bed or one placed beside a rocker. She will also use the bathroom outside but needs this backup to help prevent accidents.
Jasmine really needs a quieter home without much traffic in an out as crowds of people seem to upset her. She is happiest with her human and cheese for snacks.
