New England Border Collie Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization. All of our dogs are all in individual foster homes. We do not have a facility and we are not a shelter. Please take a few minutes to visit our web site www.nebcr.org and read about our adoption process. Its not complicated, but does require patience. Please request one by e-mailing applications@nebcr.org . Once your application is approved, you can communicate with individual foster homes and set up a meeting if you both feel the dog is a good match for your family. Thank you for your interest in rescued dogs!
Dart is a handsome and delightful 2 year old smooth-coated border collie. He is tall, long, and lanky and does need to fill out a bit as he came into rescue quite underweight.
He is excellent with people, loves everyone he has met since he came to his foster home, including children. However, his strong herding drive is problematic around children, and therefore he will not be placed with kids.
He loves attention, loves to snuggle, and sometimes noses you to solicit petting. He has been introduced to the resident cats, but has shown no interest in them, only their toys!
Dart does love toys and his favorite activity to playing fetch with a ball or Frisbee. He also enjoys wrestling with his foster brother, an aussie mix. He seems to show interest in herding, at least in herding other dogs who are playing fetch, but has not yet been tested on sheep.
Dart is learning about clicker training, but it doesn't appear that he has had much if any previous training of even basic commands. We are working on that in his foster home! He is a quick learner.
Dart walks well with a gentle leader head collar or gentle leader harness. He is house broken and crate trained.
Dart will make someone a great companion, he is a fun and loving dog with great potential. Taking him through a positive reinforcement based training class will be a requirement of his adoption.
