Polly arrived as a very pregnant dog to the Campbell County Humane Society of Virginia. She delivered an even dozen puppies 6 weeks ago during her holding time in the pound. We were fortunate that we were able to find her two separate foster homes for her puppies, because 12 was just too many for her. The tiniest four little babies went for bottlefeeding to one home, and the stoutest 8 stayed with Polly. Here is what has progressed since birth on September 13: two tiny pups passed away. The remaining 10 are little butterballs! Two remain 'bottle babies,' while 8 stay with mom in another foster home. Because Polly had classic symptoms of a uterine infection, combined with mastitis, she was spayed even while she was nursing, to save her life. We were happy to find a sponsor to help us with this cost, as it could have been quite complicated. Now Polly can concentrate on playtime with her babies as she weans them off her milk, and she can also have time to herself to learn to be a fun-loving dog. She adores everyone she meets; she is excellent with other dogs, too. Submissive, cowing to their wishes and corrections, she has great social skills. Here is some insight from Polly's foster mom:
Polly is a great dog. She hangs out with my two dogs as well as the two other foster dogs in my home. One of my dogs and one foster dog likes to be 'top dog' and she does not seem to mind at all. I'm not sure that she has ever played much prior to coming to us as she just loves the sight of me coming home or another person playing with her. She watches my guys chase balls, but has not joined in yet. Her favorite thing is to grab a rawhide chew and head straight for the dog pillows and chew for hours. She also is very Conservative for example if she is not wanting her treat when given it, she buries it promptly :)

She is fine with the three cats living in my home and Polly doesn't have any food bowl issues. She will stay in a crate but needs to be coaxed to get in one but she will go. We don't know how she does with children as she has not had any visits from children.

She is a love. I will keep her in my home til we find placement for her some where. She deserves a happy home.
