AGETHA's STORY:
Agetha was found stray on Sunday, Oct 19th after she fell off a curb and into traffic at a busy intersection in Frayser. She was so scared and confused, she almost fell down a huge 10 ft deep concrete embankment into a drainage canal. Luckily, with some puppy food and sweet talking, we were able to get her in the car and off to a safe place.
Agetha was taken straight to the vet Monday. We originally thought she was an old girl, but it turns out she is just 4 or 5 yrs old. Agetha is being treated for mange and malnutrition. She is literally skin and bones (because she is missing fur on at least 50% of her body). She was tested for heartworms and tick borne illnesses and was negative. She started on medicine for her skin and referred to the Doggy Eye Doctor for her eyes.
Poor Agentha has juvenile cataracts in one eye and a dislocated lens and related damage causing blindness in the other eye. She also has a secondary eye infection caused by poor nutrition and is on eye drops. She is a good candidate for cataract surgery for her one 'good' eye and the other eye will most likely need to be removed, but we are waiting to see how well she responds to her eye drops and how well her 'bad' eye improve as she gets healthy. Agetha will be spayed as soon as she is healthy enough, then about a month later have her eye surgeries. We are estimating her eyes will be done sometime in January and she will be ready for adoption in March.
Agetha's eye surgeries will be an estimated $1800.
Please help us to help Agetha see again! We need only 80 people to donate JUST $25 each for us to be able to afford Agetha's eye surgeries.

UPDATE: 11/20/08
Agetha is a sweet lil girl who will be beautiful once she is healthy. She seems to be house and crate trained (but can not see well enough to kennel on her own right now.) She has learned to maneuver on the stairs and will let you know when she has to go out. She has also discovered the joys of snuggling and sleeping in the bed with her foster parents. She is becoming a lap dog.
UPDATE: 12/9/08
The picture of Agetha in the tan coat was taken today. As you can see she is recovering nicely from her skin aliments. Agetha has caught a puppy cold and her surgeries are postponed until she is feeling better. She has really come out of her shell. She has discovered her bark and will let you know when she isn't happy. She is also becoming quite a lover and loves to snuggle.
UPDATE: 12/18/08
Agetha has pneumonia and the vets think maybe distemper. She is getting round the clock care, is on IV antibiotics and medicine. Agetha is a fighter so we will not give up on her.
UPDATE: 12/30/08
Agetha is doing so much better. None of her docs can believe she pulled thru. She is back to her sassy self, and no longer has fluid in her lungs. She goes back in 2 weeks for clearance for surgery.
UPDATE: 1/2/09
POOR AGETHA! Now she has a stomach flu. The docs think it may be her bodies reaction to all the antibiotics that she was on to battle the pneumonia. She is on a special diet and stomach meds. This poor sweety can't catch a break
UPDATE: 1/9/09
Agetha is pooping normally again! YAY! She is back to her old self. She is sassy and frisky and begging to be picked up and snuggled. Agetha goes back to the vet next week for one more follow up and then hopefully will be cleared for her surgeries.
Agetha will be spayed first, then about a month later, once she if fully recovered, have her eye surgeries.
Check back for more pics and updates on Agetha.
