AXEL is a purebred chocolate lab who was born in February 2008. When he was run over by a car, his owners did nothing to help him. After 8 weeks, they gave him to Save the Strays. By that time, his broken back had healed, leaving his back legs semi- paralyzed. We tried putting him in a canine cart (dog wheelchair), but he refused to use it. Instead, Axel has re-learned to walk and is now even able to run (see video on our webpage: www.savethestrays.org). His back legs are extended, so his gait is stiff, but he is increasingly mobile each day. Axel is a wonderful, loving, gentle dog who plays well with other dogs and loves people. In every sense but his ability to walk, he is the perfect dog. He needs very little in the way of accommodation - just a ramp or assistance (rear-end harness or other lifting aid) getting up steps. If you have prior dog experience and a good vet reference, please consider making Axel part of your family.
