SSR is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Nash Correctional Institution and are proudly participating in their 'A New Leash On Life' prison training program. Lena is one of our foster dogs in training now. She will be graduating early February 2009 so put your app in for your finely trained new family member now.

Coat Color: Black and White
Eye Color: Lena has uveitus so one eye has gray shading and brown and her other eye is blue
Energy Level: Lena is very low key and laid back. She is a bit scared and skittish right now but coming out of her shell more and more every day
Personality: Once you gain Lena's trust, she is very loving and sweet. She doesn't seem to be socialized so the world is all new and little bit scarey to her right now. She is adjusting and warming up and learning that living in a house with a pack is a good thing.
Good with Dogs: Lena is fine with other dogs but does not initiate play. She is not rude to other dogs, just has no interest in running and romping with them.
Good with Cats: Not tested yet but she may be okay.
Good with Children: With Lena being scared and skittish right now, she will do best in a quieter home without toddlers and small children as their energy level and running around will probably just scare her. Lena will do best in a more laid back home and environment.
Housetrained: Not quite yet but we're working on that. It's taking some time with Lena as she is a bit shy about going outside and still needs to learn to go out the back door to potty.
Crate Trained: Lena has never been crated in her foster home but I expect she will do just fine crated. She is not destructive in the house but does do a bit of chewing on shoes if left out and enjoys a good fake plant every now and again!
Rides Well in Car: Yes
Leash Trained: Lena does not pull on leash at all but does dart back and forth a lot. Sometimes she will just stop and you need to give her high praise and motivation to move forward. She is improving every day however.
Basic Obedience: Lena's Foster Mom is still working on socialization and getting her comfortable in the house and going in and out of the house. Sit, down and stay will have to come after that.
