Chance, as in SECOND CHANCE, lost his owner due to a tragic auto accident. He and the other dogs in her care were left alone and frightened when their owner did not come home. A kind citizen was contacted to go to the home to rescue the dogs. They were taken to the pound to await new homes. Unfortunately, as is so often the case, that did not happen.
Because his previous owner was an animal lover, the family requested all donations go to the local pound in her memory in order to help Chance and his housemates, along with the other residents there.
The family had no idea that the dogs would be in danger of being euthanized, in spite of the donations given for their safekeeping.
The pound is a very stressful environment and as a result Chance was so frightened that he and one of his other housemates were slated for immediate death if they were not rescued ASAP. Even those they labeled having wonderful temperaments found no new family to love them, had run out of time and were scheduled for euthanasia. Chance came to Bless the Beasts and with the help of a wonderful network of other Rescue organizations, all her other dogs were saved from imminent death and await new homes as well.
(Note: As happens so often with dogs in pounds, they find themselves in an unfamiliar environment with unfamiliar people and no one there to love them. That is often a death sentence for many dogs, especially certain breeds. Rat Terriers are so loyal to their owners, they do not do well in pounds.
We also might add here that the excessive high euthanasia rate in this country is due to the law of supply and demand. There simply are not enough good homes for all the pets produced. In the U.S., we have decided it is acceptable to kill the excess pets produced rather than prevent them in the first place. We in Rescue find that unacceptable!! Therefore, we promote and preach SPAY & NEUTER your pets.)
Deemed unadoptable at the pound, nothing could be further from the truth. As soon as Chance came into a home environment, he was the perfect pet. He is housebroken, social, sleeps in his foster mom?s bed, and gets along with other dogs and cats. He is somewhat apprehensive with small children, but would do well with older children.
He will make some lucky family a perfect new companion. Will you be the fortunate one to give him a SECOND CHANCE.
(We did discover his original name after some time, but by that time, he had learned his new name and it seems appropriate for him.
His adoption fee of $115 will cover neuter, 3 year rabies vaccine, 3 year distemper/parvo vaccine, heartworm test, and microchip.
We do process the applications in the order that they are received. We cannot guarantee any particular dog will still be available by the time we get to your application. We cannot respond to each application or keep you updated as we go along. We do not consider a dog adopted until the process has been completed and a contract has been signed. As long as the dog is still listed, it is still available and we are processing applications. As soon as a dog is adopted, it is removed from the list. If you apply and your application is approved, we will contact you. If you decide not to wait or find another dog, please let us know so we can go on to another application.
