Gavin is a 7 1/2 month old sable, male collie who has had a rough start in life, He was found as a stray in Mississippi and brought to the shelter terribly neglected and emaciated. The shelter staff did their best to clean him up, bring him UTD on shots, feed him and give him lots of love. However, after almost 2 months at the shelter, Gavin was still waiting for a new home.
You see, Gavin has a problem with his eyes that has caused some blindness. The shelter helped arrange to have Gavin go to into foster care where he could learn to live in a home environment. After coming to Almost Home, Gavin visited an Ophthalmologist and was diagnosed with PPM. He was born with this condition (Persistent pupillary membranes) in both eyes which causes white spot on the eye. Gavin has limited vision in his right eye, but can see quite well with his left eye. Because Gavin was born this way, he does not know he is different and has adjusted just fine. No treatment is recommended and his eyesight will remain, it will not get worse over time.
Gavin is your typical collie pup. He loves to play with toys, chew on bones and wrestle and run with other dogs. He has a strong herding instinct and likes to nibble at your heels and pant legs. He is not particularly fond of cats, barking and chasing them through the house. Gavin his housebroken and crate trained. He is a bit possessive of food, but is learning quickly he will never be starved again.
