Hi, my name is Bandit and I am almost 5 years old. I have spent the last few years in a small enclosure and now I am in a bigger enclosure. I desperately want to get out and go for walks, to smell new scents and have new experiences before I die. I want a life like I see other dogs having. They get adopted and their new families hug them and pet their heads and take them away for a ride and one-on-one attention. I see how happy the other dogs are and I can't help but want that too. I think people don't want me because I am black and very big. But I am a good boy. I have learned how to sit and to walk on a leash. I love getting hugs and though I sit very still when someone loves on me, I am filled with excitement. I sit still because I don't want the person to stop petting me or to get afraid because I am big. But they do stop and then they go away and I am left alone again. I have all my shots and am neutered and I am healthy. Sometimes, when someone takes me for a walk, I trot out to the end of the leash and look off into the distance wanting to run. I can't really run very far because I don't get enough exercise to be in good shape, but I would dearly love to be. One time, I was let out of my enclosure (which I share with my brother but he doesn't like me) and I was so happy, I ran around the yard. I bounced around, feeling free and excited, but then, another dog ran up and bit me in the face puncturing the skin under my eye. I was so scared, I ran back into my enclosure and hid in my little house. One of the ladies who takes care of us coaxed me out of my house and took me for a walk later, when all the other dogs were put away, and she spent time with me so that I knew it was safe outside again and she made my eye feel better. But I will never forget those incredible moments of freedom, running around the yard and hearing the ladies cheering me on. It was like a dream I hold close to my heart when I'm lonely.
