Hi, I'm Douglas. I'm a beagle and I'm so relieved because things are looking up for me. The past month has been a rough one! I was left at a local animal control with my sister. As it turned out, I had heartworms and she didn't. She got adopted after a couple of days while I languished all alone in my pen. The folks at the shelter said all I did was cry. Barooo! Luckily my nice foster mom read about my story on the internet and convinced AARF to make me an AARF dog. My foster mom rescued me when I was on my last day! That was a close one! When I left the shelter, at first, I was really scared and nervous because I didn't know any of these people, pllus, I still didn't feel well! But now that I know that I'm safe and going to be taken care of, I'm starting to feel more comfortable.
I'm getting treatment for my heartworms and now I'm starting to lose some of the extra weight I gained over the years. That's pretty cool because now I can walk up and down the stairs and I'm looking forward to playing out in the yard with my foster brother when my heartworm treatment is over. I love other dogs and cats are okay too. I like all people - men and women, adults and children - as long as they want to give me a little belly rub and some scratches behind the ears. My favorite is when my foster mom puts me in her lap and brushes me and talks to me like I'm a baby. I know, I'm 3 and practically grown, but no one ever treated me like this when I was a puppy, so I really enjoy a little TLC now. I think my perfect family would be a calm house with some older folks, because even though I like to sometimes play with kids, they can scare me a little when they make a loud noise or move too fast! I'd like to have a doggie brother or sister, so I don't have to be lonely anymore. I'm a very good boy! I do not go to the bathroom in the house! That's undignified! And I don't mind relaxing in my crate when I'm home alone. Every one needs some quiet time! I like going out for walks on the leash and I won't pull or try to run away, but I'd also like a fenced-in yard because I like some privacy when I go potty. Please consider giving me a a permanent home. I've let go of the past and I'm ready to start settling down with a new family.
