My dog vomits regularly but seems fine afterward. Should I worry?
First, make sure your dog’s not counter-surfing, raiding the trash, or somehow eating things he shouldn’t be. If not, there are many other possible causes, including a few of the most common:
- Parasites such as whipworms or roundworms. All dogs should be on a parasite prevention program from their vet.
- Inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. An intolerance to an ingredient in your dog’s food is one possible cause of gut inflammation.
- Acid reflux.
- Obstruction, such as a foreign object lodged in the gastrointestinal tract. This problem is very serious and your dog should see a veterinarian as soon as possible.
Always consult your vet if your dog’s vomiting is chronic, continues for more than a day, or is accompanied by other symptoms, such as weight loss, decreased appetite, diarrhea, or excessive water intake.
