If you walk your dog every day on a sidewalk or road you will not have to cut their nails. over 1 year ago by awasicki
Hi Curry Cat, Some dogs need a nail trim every month or so. Others can go for several months without little or no trimming, usually because they do a lot of walking and running on hard surfaces. To learn more about nail trimming/cutting, you may visit this site. http://dogtime.com/nails.html Regards! over 1 year ago by bullmania0711
Your dog's nails grow constantly and how often they need to be clipped will depend on your dog's lifestyle. Lightly trim a couple of nails a day. Just trim off the tips - this lessens the chances of you cutting too deep and frightening your dog off. I read somewhere that if you can hear your dog's nails clicking on the ground, then s/he needs them clipped. If you spend a lot of active time with your dog (walking, fetching, ect.) then your dog's nails will naturally wear themselves down. Kyle's advice is good- if you just clip the ends of the nails you'll lessen the risk of hitting the vein that runs through them. Snipping the vein hurts a ton and can bleed like crazy. over 1 year ago by Allison
Active dogs will wear down their nails on their own because they do a lot of walking and running on hard surfaces. But most dogs need regular nail trims. When nails grow too long, they can make it uncomfortable for the dog to walk and lead to painful, bloody snags and tears. Basically, it depends upon the way of living the dogs have on how often they have to cut their nails. Some dogs need it every month while others can go for several months. Without trimming, nails can quickly become ingrown or long enough to make walking uncomfortable. Long nails snag easily on carpet, upholstery, and even your clothes. So it’s better to just clip the ends of the nails because snags can lead to a tear, an injury that can be bloody as well as painful. I hope that somehow I helped you with your problem.
