Beautiful dogs. Really high strung. Need lots of exercise. Not all that stranger friendly. Great running partners.

Maybe a little stubborn at times, but nice dogs.

They are wonderful dogs. Our RR was our first big dog and he was truly a family member.

I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback and she is an angel !

Pros are:

They dont bark (unless the dog feels there is danger or a threat)

They are playfull (love exercise)

Love affection (love snuggling on couches and love cuddles)

are smart (my dog learnt how to sit, drop and shake within such a short time , was harder to teach her how to stay)

Cons are:

They shed hair (my dog malts so much fur, it gets stuck in clothing)

Pros :

  • can adapt to a variety of homes including apartments

  • does well with other pets if he’s raised with them

  • don’t bark a lot

  • generally healthy

Cons :

  • because of their size, intelligence, and power, aren’t recommended for first-time or timid owners

  • if bored, males tend to be aggressive to other males

  • can become very destructive, needs a high fence to keep him from escaping and roaming

I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback and he is wonderful. As a breed they are very handsome, intelligent and sensitive. They learn very quickly, but you cannot yell at them to train them because it won’t work. They really are a breed that needs to be trained with positive reinforcement and patience. They are very loyal, independent thinkers, and clean dogs. They do shed a lot but there is no doggie odor.

Most Ridgebacks are not high strung they are just the opposite – they are hound type dogs that like moderate exercise like walking, jogging, playing, and they love sleeping and lounging on the sofa. They love the sun and warmth, most dislike the rain. They can be stubborn and mine will not do anything he thinks will jeopardize his personal safety – if he thinks it’s unsafe or new he has to warm up to it first – very funny. They are large and muscular and can pull when being walked. Most will chase small animals and cats since they are hunters – I don’t think mine will ever be able to go out off a leash. Their temperaments are wonderful, they are so loving and sweet – big mushes and they don’t drool !! Mine is the best dog I ever had – he’s very sweet and affectionate
