I keep hearing they’re “houndy” smelling. I live in a small town and haven’t been able to meet one. Are they really that strong smelling? My friends have a male Golden Retriever and he can smell pretty “doggy”. Do beagles smell more than Goldens? |

Beagles have such a great spirit. I just read Shiloh and it reminds me of my brother’s beagle when I was kid. We lived out in the woods and he was soooo much fun. |

I’ve been around bassets and beagles for years and I wouldn’t say either have a real houndy smell except for maybe when they need their ears cleaned. The ears need a little attention but cleaning them once a week (mostly in summer less so in winter) will keep them less houndy. They do tend to get an odor as they get up in old age but most dogs tend to. It also depends on their diet as well and as long as they are on a good healthy diet and don’t have any skin allergies they are a wonderful dog to have. You also need to make sure their teeth are clean because bad breath can tend to give them an odor as well. |

I own three and couldn’t recommend them more! Different personalities all. Sweet, funny, clowns. The 10 year old still plays with toys. As with most long eared dogs, ears occasionally need cleaning. Teeth as well for bad breath but all dogs should have their teeth cleaned routinely. Get locking trash cans, baby door latches and food bins…noses get them in trouble…! |

I just recently got a beagle puppy for my birthday. My beagle is cute, full of energy, naughty at times, nosey and sniffy but this is in their breed. Beagles need daily excercise, Grooming,Affection and most of all love. My beagle is like my best friend they will cheer you up if your feeling down, never forget you and will be a bestie for life. I couln’t have asked for a better dog. |
