I first saw this breed at the San Francisco dog show lst October. Since then, I’ve seen one dog with his owner on the Embarcadero in San Francisco.
I’m surprised this breed isn’t more popular.
The dogs are beautiful, easy-going, and a great size. Not too small, but not too big. Thay are very people-friendly, and love being out of doors.

Unlike my Brittany, which is about the same size, the Duck Toller is relatively laid back, and not so crazy in the absence of lots of exercise.

We got our Toller 6 months ago and couldn’t be happier. They’re the perfect dog. While I agree the breed should be more popular, I like having a rare, special dog. I probably enjoy the compliments at the dog park too much. She loves other dogs, never obsesses about anything (dogs, our cat, balls, people, etc), but is always interested and always ready to play or go for a walk/run. When watching TV, she curls up or quietly knaws on a bone. She loves sitting in our window looking out at our (busy, urban) street. She’s had her ears + tail pulled by toddlers and didn’t seem to notice. We just got back from a lake weekend, and again she was ideal: content to either lounge on the deck, swim or explore the forest as her people did – confident to go out on her own, but never straying too far.

Getting to be popular is The Kiss Of Death to any breed.. Look what Happened to Rotties. They NEVER should have become #2 in popularity. It is NOT a breed for most who acquired them. Just look at Animal Planet Humane Society program at SO many of them in the wrong hands: starved, sleeping on ICE in the open and on a chain, with mutt pups under the house in the dirt. UGHH.
