I would take them to the vet to determine their age to seeif they are weaned or still need formula. If they still need formula you can buy a product called Esbalac. It comes in liquid and powder. The powder is cheaper to use, or you vet can tell you how to make it from scratch. I had to mix it from scratch because one pup I was hand raising was allergic to cow’s milk and I had to make it from goat’s milk. If they are still on a liquid diet, I would use a baby bottle or a you can get smaller bottles made just for puppis at your local pet supply store to feed them. If they are ready to be weaned you can buy Esbalac second stage or like stated above baby cereal. Depending on their age, you may have to make this mixure very thin, cut a bigger hole in the nipple and still feed them with the bottle. If they are ready to start eating totally on their own, mix some formula and baby cereal. Make the mixture soupy and then put it down and show them where it is. This will be very messy! When they eat this mixture, get some high quality wet puppy food and start mixing small amounts in the mixture until it is all puppy food.Make sure the food is about room temperature, if it is too cold it can cause stomach pain and diarrhea, and if it’s hot it can burn their little mouths. As they get older get a good quality dry puppy food and soak it in warm water until soft then slowly start giving it to them with less water until they are eating just the dry puppy food with nothing on it. I have given this much information because I do not know the age of the pups. The most important thing is to get them to the vet so he can tell you how old they are and give you better advice on what to feed them. I hope this has helped. I have hand raised many orphaned kittens and puppies and it’s hard work, but it’s worth it. In fact, I hand raised the Goldador that I have now. |

A puppy eats a lot of food. From birth up to six months of age, he’ll need to eat two to four times as much as an adult dog to support all that growth. A good rule of thumb (paw?) is that after his first week of life, when his weight doubles from what it was at birth, a puppy should gain one to two grams per pound of anticipated adult weight each day. This means that if your German Shepherd puppy weighs 75 pounds as an adult, he should gain three to five ounces per day as a puppy. |
