I want to keep my dog on a premium diet, but dog food prices keep going up. I wanted to know from someone who makes their dog’s food at home how much it costs per week to feed them.

Hello, First I will say that since my dachshund and choxie (dachshund/chihuahua were put on home cooked meals, their skin, hair and weight improved dramatically. We like to buy a pullet chicken about 7lbs at about $3.00 lb at Delaware (hormone free) will last us a whole week. Turkey is good too. My dachshund reacts badly to red meat. My husband bakes it in the oven, remove skin and take meat off and store separately. I will also steam or cook in chicken broth a combination of three of the following to add to the food. Brocolli, Sweet Potato, Corn, Calliflower and always garlic. I am vegetarian so sometimes I eat some of their vegies. It is also important to add something like Missing Link to the food so that they get everything they need. It is only about 1 tbs for both dogs each meal. Almost forgot a touch of olive oil is nice and might contribute to their skin and hair being so healthy and itch free. It is really not hard to adjust to this routine and where ever I go with my dogs that are now 5 as of today they are showered with complements on their hair and muscle tone. They are very happy, healthy dogs. I also have three of my own cats and 1 stray that I feed they raw with a powdered supplement. For pictures of my pets you can go to my space and look me up under Dragonita (picture in black and white of me showing my tattoo on my back) I have many pictures of all my animals and you can also write if you need help with what I consider the best thing anyone can do for their pets. Oh and by the way snacks. If you can get your dog to like carrots it is so much better for then than any of that stuff made in china.
Good luck.
Maggie

My dog does seem to like carrots. She also likes apples and she loves watermellon. I never by her treats made in China.
