Does anyone have good recipes for Kong stuffing? I’ve been using kibbles and closing the whole with peanut butter. I don’t want to buy the Kong paste but I would like to try some frozen Kongs. Ideas anyone?

The sky is the limit (well, within your dog’s dietary needs).

Are you soaking your kibble to make it spongy? The easiest and most economical way to spice up a kong and make it easy to freeze is to soak kibble in advance with mostly water, but also flavored with a little something else, such as low sodium beef or chicken broth, a bit of honey, a spoonful of canned food, or yes, peanut butter mixed in to the water so that the kibble soaks up the flavor.

Wet kibble is somewhat spongy and easy to mush and make great stuffed Kongs.

This page has a lot of more creative ideas:

I’m just getting a new puppy so forgive me for asking what may be a silly question, but what’s kibble and where do you get it?

Hi there,

Kibble is just another name for dry dog food. And no question is too silly, you are just learning!

Thank you Kelly, that page has a lot of ideas. No, I haven’t soaked the kibble yet, I was waiting for her to become better at getting things out. She likes the peanut butter first and then she proceeds to get the kibble more with her paws than her mouth, it’s really strange. She makes the Kong roll in different directions and gets a few kibbles out at the time. When we used Ziggies in her Kong, outside the crate, she can only get them if she pulls them out right away. If they go in, she tries getting them out unsuccesful and we end up helping her (or she loses interest, whichever comes first). I will try the soaking and see how that goes. Thank you so much for your advice!!!
