make sure that after pooping if your walking you dog that you do not linger on the spot to prevent your pup from eating the poop… if it is inside the house, clean the area immediately… whenever you catch you pup in the act, firmly say “no” and remove him from the room so that you could clean it…

That seems really frustrating. It all boils down to training. You just have to be more patient, things will get better. To find out more about training, please click on:

Ive heard that dog who do that and who also eat very fast usually eat their poop because they eat their food so fast they dont absorb all the nutrience from it the first time and it stills smells good to them once it comes out the other end. If you dog is eating fast try getting him to eat slower by only putting a little food down at a time and maybe that will work.

Many canine misbehaviors are born out of instinct, and most arise from either boredom or stress.

But for him to learn what is and isn’t appropriate in the world you share, you must act as the benevolent leader of your household:

  • Set boundaries and be consistent.

  • Reinforce good behavior with plenty of treats, toys, and attention.

  • Ignore unwanted behavior as much as possible.

  • Make sure your dog knows he’s a beloved and important part of the pack.

Any behavior can be made much worse by inadequate training or poor handling. Physical force is never effective and only weakens the bond you’re trying to build. Check this link for more information.

Thank you for asking this question! My puppy has recently began eating her poop, and I was mortified! Reading the answers and suggestions really helped!

Try getting him to eat a little pineapple. It’s supposed to make the poo taste bad.

I have a lab puppy that did the same thing, I started buying better dog food(Dick Van Patten Natural Balance) and it stopped immediatly…I was told that they do that because of lack of nutrition from the food their eating..I don’t know if its true but it worked for us
