I just adopted a Black Lab from a shelter last week. She is 2 years old, trained and as sweet as can be. This is the Q…Why does she grab my arm and leg (quite insistently) all the time? It is really like she is trying to grab my arm and pull it, or sometimes she just wants to put her paw on me and keep it there. I guess this is a two part Q…If I am gone for a few hours (or leave her at the vet) when she comes to me, she displays normal happy lab behaviour. The bad part is when she nibbles on my arms and clothes. Nothing that would hurt, but it’s a little disconcerting. |

hi, Though it seems to yield little benefit for the domesticated dog, canine aggression once served very necessary purposes: hunting down food and protecting territory and other pack members. For the modern dog, aggression toward people still surfaces as a result of a real or perceived threat—and often worsens because our two species don’t naturally speak the same language. here are some guidelines: hope this helps. |

hello, you didn’t say if she growls at you is she doesnt I don’t think that aggression if she does try to look at this tips on dog aggression http://dogtime.com/aggression-toward-people.html. If she doesn’t maybe she pulls you to keep you near, Labrador’s are known to be friendly and loyal to his/her owner. But biting and chewing is annoying to help you in solving her biting and chewing there are tips in this section |

No growling. Not at us anyway. Usually not at anyone else either. She does get a little weird when we are walking with the leash, but never toward me or my son. She is very protective of us already. Scares people with her “big black dog” growl. |

Labradors are known to be friendly bred; maybe you should socialize her a little more. The more she feels comfortable with other dogs and people the more fun you guys having her….you could try reading this article in how to train her… Good luck |
