When my puppy is between 12-16 weeks, I would like to start socializing her to other dogs. At this point, she will have had her 2nd set of shots. Unfortunately, there doesn’t happen to be any puppy kindergarten courses that start during that period as I’ve checked them all. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do in the meantime for that valuable 4 week period? Since she is not fully vaccinated, I can’t take her to the dog park. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Do you know of any young adult or puppies in your neighbourhood that you can arrange a “play date” with? As long as the other pups are healthy and vaccinated it is a great way to start up the socialization process. If you use young adults, make sure they are similar size if possible and puppy tolerant (the owners will know..) Do a bit of research on body language so that you can recognize when your pup is unsure, frightened or has just about had enough..lol. Positive meetings are very important.

Also don’t forget that socializing includes people..of all sizes, shapes, colours and descriptions. People who wear hats, men with beards..etc.

Go to as many places that are not “dog busy” and take lots of treats to give him to associate good things with the world. Be conscious that you not overstimulate him, all things must be approached positively so as not to overload your pup.

Hopefully you will get into a puppy K soon and continue the good work! Congrats on your pup.

I’m moving to a new city and won’t know anyone but your advice made me contact a dog club where hopefully I can meet new people and dogs! Thanks for your advice!
