My dog drags her butt on the rug, grass etc… you get the point. She has know worms in her bowels and, eating habits are good. Any suggestions…

Sincerely,

It could be her anal glands giving her some trouble. They probably need to be expressed, try taking her to a professional groomer or her vet.

Good luck getting rid of the bum scooting, it can’t be comfortable for her!

I agree with Kelly. Anal gland issues are very common and some dogs have more than others. See your vet for an expression (some people learn how to do it at home BUT it is a really yucky thing so I prefer the vet to do it…lol).
The anal glands usually express themselves when the dog defecates but if the dog does not have consistent firm bowel movements it doesn’t happen and the glands get too full and can get irritated or even infected (OUCH!). So, after getting her bum checked take a look at diet changes that will firm up his stool. A good low grain high protein food can help.

I agree with the above posters, your pet’s glands needs to be cleaned and I also prefer to have the vet handle that for me.

My very furry behinded dog also dragged her butt. Had her checked for worms. Nothing. Had her checked for anal sac problems. Nothing. Finally my vet hit on an interesting thought. “Maybe she drags her butt because it itches. After all, that’s one place she can’t quite get to to calm the itch.” So I started scratching her butt, not her anus, but just her general butt. Guess what? No more butt dragging. So that could be your dog’s problem, but I’d eliminate the other “usual suspects” first, just to be on the safe side.

Talk to your vet… or maybe her butt just itches!
