I have 2 lab boxer mied sisters and whe i let them out they run to one my nieghbors fence and just start barking and there colicks are up. When the nieghbors are out there or not if they are not out there they bark for alittle bit then just run around and play with each other if they are out there the just keep on barking until they go inside. I have caught the nieghbor kids tormenting my dogs such as trowing things at them and then running away. The nieghbors say that my dogs are too agressive towards there kids. I can have people over all the time new people they have never met and they are excited for alittle bit but never agressive towards them what can i do about my nieghbors

You want to be very careful about this situation. Even though it sounds as though the neighbor’s kids have provoked this situation, one complaint from them and you’ll likely lose—and possibly might be required to get rid of your dogs. Would it be possible to get on friendlier terms with your neighbors, perhaps taking over some cookies and asking if you and they could chat about how everyone can get along better? If they’re receptive, explain to them that your dogs are friendly and ask if they’d like to bring their kids over so the kids can learn to play with them nicely. People can be extremely defensive about their kids, so tread lightly, but perhaps, if you can get them in a position where you can teach them how to behave around your dogs and stop tormenting them, things might settle down.

No one would think of putting a shock collar on a canary or beating a husband with a rolled-up newspaper and having his vocal cords cut for ‘singing’ in the shower. However, people think nothing of doing all of these and more to barking dogs.

Here’s how to train your dog to be quiet

My daughter has a clinically aggressive dog. Your girls are probably just reacting to the neighbor’s tormenting or just protecting their territory.

This article has helped me understand my daughter’s dog a little better: Understanding Aggression I hope it helps! Let us know how everything turns out!

Kids do torment dogs, that’s just kids. Either pluck up the courage and confront your next door neighbours about their kids tormenting your dogs, take round the dogs to get them familarised with the kids, maybe even the kids could learn that tormenting dogs is not acceptable behaviour.

Another way is by teaching your dogs to be quiet, to do so, you need them to learn the command ‘Speak!’. You’ll have to train them seperately, or have the other dog at a distance watching without interuption. Tie one of the dogs to a post, then entice him with food, after a short while, your dog will bark out of frustration that he can’t get the treat. You should be able to time it right to know when he is getting ready to bark, as soon as he does, say “speak!” and give him the treat. A week of doing this 3 times a day for 15 mins, will not only teach him valuable commands, but it also builds a bond between you and the dog, not to mention that the dog gets mentally challenged enough to be more contented during the day.

After you have taught both dogs the speak command, again, tie them to the post, wait until he starts barking for the treat, then put the treat on his nose, most dogs at this point will stop barking immediately, once he does, say “Quiet!”, you will have a 1 second window between him stopping and saying the command with the treat for the dog to learn this. Make sure that you are having fun doing this, if you or the dog is bored, stop at once as it won’t really work.

Also make sure that you give treats intermittedly, give them a treat everytime for the first couple of days, but then start to give a praise of “Good dog/boy/girl!” then a treat the next time, eventually a verbal praise will be just enough reward as a treat and will stop the dog becoming overweight from all the treats.

After that have learnt that, everytime they bark, a simple “Quiet!” followed by a verbal praise will eventually discourage them from barking every time. Not only that, but it keeps the dog’s natural guarding ability and keeps burglars at bay. The biggest burglar deterrent is a barking dog, no matter what the size.
