I am going to get a lab but I am not sure where to get one. I am thinking about getting a lab mix, but I am not sure which good shelters there are in San Jose, CA. Does anybody know one? Thanks in advance!

Petfinders is a great resource. Also if you Google Humane Society San Jose CA you should be able to find a local shelter. The Labrador Retriever is a GREAT dog and is one of the most “mixed” of all the breeds. They are loyal, smart, people and dog friendly, and make the best friend you’ll ever have. Please consider going to a shelter to find your forever friend. Did you know that black dogs are the most likely to be “put to sleep” at a shelter? I hope you’ll also consider a black dog, too! :o) Have a great life!

i went to the north LA animal center yesterday to adopt a new face with my mom and there was a black lab there who was really sweet; we ended up getting a smaller terrier mix who was equally as great but I can’t stop thinking about her.. it is tough to go into these shelters, but it feels great to leave with a dog knowing he/she was truly rescued. i will always recommend getting a dog from a high kill shelter, and the plus is most of them have online lists of available animals. here is the shelter i went to: http://www.laanimalservices.com/adoptapet_nc.htm
i dont think people realize how many beautiful pure bred dogs are in there!

Hi Sophia,

Here’s a cool page that might offer some helpful tips that you haven’t already thought of.

They’ve got names here too for once you adopt.

Good Luck!
