My Adventures with Tibby and Charlie Each morning there is a paw scratching the back of my neck, very gently as my head is still on the pillow. “Mum wake up it is time for your coffee,” says Tibby. Mum slowly stirs, grabbing her dressing gown, throwing it over her shoulders; heading to the kitchen for her wake up coffee. Charlie bounces out of bed, following Tibby to the lounge room snuggling up together on the lounge waiting for Mum. Mum waddles into the lounge with her coffee in one hand, and sits down beside Tibby and Charlie. They know Mum will not move without her coffee. Their eyes are glued to Mum’s actions. “Ah!” says Charlie. Mum has moved out into the kitchen and gone to get her clothes. Jumping off the lounge and doing circles with excitement. “It won’t be long now,” says Tibby. “I know Mum is quick in the shower with water restrictions,” says Charlie. Suddenly the water is turned off in the shower, “Come on Tibby lets wait in the passage for Mum,” says Charlie. Running with excitement to sit by the bathroom door and wait, “Why hello!” says Mum with a smile on her face as she exits the bathroom. Mum wanders back into the lounge room, like the Pied Piper of Hamlyn to put her shoes and socks on. You have to see their actions to believe what I am writing but it is true. “Time to go Mum has her shoes and socks on, and has her keys and mobile phone in her hand,” says Tibby. “Yes,” says Charlie. “Let’s get our harnies,” he finishes. Tibby and Charlie Zoom out the doggy door barking with happiness wagging their tails, telling the world they are going for a walk. Tibby and Charlie are finally dressed with their harnesses on. Excitement reigns with anticipation, venturing out the front gate and heading down the drive for our walk. Tibby yelping in joy says, “Charlie, where are we going to go today for our play.” “I am going to make sure Mum goes along the big creek today,” says Charlie. “Good,” says Tibby. “I want to run in the creek today”. “So do I,” says Charlie. “Lets make sure Mum goes that way she will have fun, watching us play; she always laughs then.” said Charlie. “Lets hurry,” says Tibby. Zoom down the path with excitement, and cheerful barks. “We know where we are going Mum,” says Tibby “I know you do,” says Mum getting dragged along the path by two excited doggies. Tibby and Charlie know exactly where they are going when they reach the entrance to the park; they stand and wait for Mum to let them of the leader. Mum finishes unhooking us, she no sooner stands up and we are gone playing with each other. Reaching the edge of the creek bed, Tibby and Charlie spy their friend Sophie a Golden Labrador on the other side of the creek wandering slowly fossiking in the grass. Tibby and Charlie start barking to say “hello.” Sophie barks back at them, it brightens her day as she is getting old and has arthritis. Mum catches up and waves to Jean, “Sophie’s Mum.” “Come on puppies we must move along it is getting late,” says Mum. “Okay,” says Tibby and Charlie. Charlie has gone running for a Magpie he spotted, the Magpie was looking for grubs in the grass nearby. Charlie is running fast, but the bird just beats him. The Magpie is now sitting up high on a branch of a gum tree looking down at Charlie, “Ha, Ha, I am up here and you can not get me,” says the Magpie. “I will catch you one day,” says Charlie. He wanders away from the gum tree looking for Tibby to play, Mum is taking photos of Tibby playing by the duck pond near the bridge; it is not long before Charlie happily joins in. Tibby spots “Lucy and Missy,” walking across the bridge with their Mum stopping to say “Hello.” Two little white Maltese terriers, hustling their Mum along the bridge to greet; Tibby and Charlie. A greeting of strangers you would think they had not met for a long time, but it was only yesterday they all last saw each other. Charlie says, “Lucy, Missy lets all play chase, it gives our Mums time to chat.” “Okay,” says Lucy “Lets go,” she says and all four dogs play happily for a few moments around the ponds. Tibby runs across the park crashing into Charlie, as they both head towards Mum. “Come on you two, we must start back,” says Mum. “Oh do we have too,” says Tibby. Mum knew they were not eager to go home but they all had to because Mum had to get some work done at home. Being home meant no more play for a while. “Bye for now,” says Mum. “Bye” says Lucy and Missy’s Mum. Happily wandering along the creek path, Tibby and Charlie playing in the fresh air, Tibby and Charlie spot a duck playing in the water, with its family in tow. Tibby shimmers, down the side of the creek bed. Charlie finally decides to join her chasing the ducks. “Come on Charlie,” says Tibby, they hurry along the creek a bit trying to catch the ducks. Ducks can swim quicker in water than dogs, so Tibby and Charlie found out. Getting a little close the ducks finally fly up out of the creek and onto the next pond. Mum is standing on the bank of the creek smiling and laughing at her two prize puppies. Tibby and Charlie look up at her with their big eyes and say, “You are not cross with us, Mum.” “No I am not cross with you,” said Mum. “Come on get out of the water, we have to go home,” says Mum. Mum utters under her breath, “Who could be cross with them they are only playing.” “Hurry Tibby, we have to go home,” says Charlie. “You know we are going to have a bath when we get home,” says Charlie. “I know, but it was worth it! We had fun getting dirty didn’t we,” says Tibby. Tibby and Charlie are happy to wander home with Mum now. Arriving home, Mum heads straight for the bathroom, Tibby and Charlie try to play hide and seek from Mum, but this time Mum is the winner. Charlie was trying to get Tibby to go into the bedroom but she was not moving from the mat in the kitchen. “Let’s go hide in the bedroom,” says Charlie. “You sure,” says Tibby. “Yes I hate baths,” said Charlie, “I like staying dirty, I am a boy and we are supposed to be dirty,” responded Charlie. “I do not like baths either,” said Tibby, “But we have to get clean or we will smell everything up for Mum,”. “Are you going to run and hide or not?” said Charlie “I suppose, but I want my treats, I need to build my energy up for my bath,” says Tibby, “Look at me Charlie! I am a lot smaller than you!”. “Okay!” says Mum “How about a smacko?” Tails wagging, sitting on the floor in the kitchen eyes glued to Mum’s movements. Thoughts of happiness run through Mum’s mind watching them sitting eagerly waiting for their smacko’s. Tricky Mum grabs them both by surprise and heads straight for the bathroom. Two small little puppies in the bathtub covered in soap and bubbles. Two little drowned rats saying, “Hurry up Mum this is embarrassing.” All finished the run out side to shake off the water and dry themselves in the sun. Barking telling the world of animals they have been for a walk with and now had a bath. This is based on the real life of Tibby and Charlie 2 little cross breed Chihuahua’s that have embraced our lives forever. |
