I have a little maltese mix, and he loves to play in the snow. When it snows i like tto take him out to play in the snow and he has a good time but he get huge clumps of snow in his fur. He wears a jacket but it still gets caught up on his legs and and stomach around his sensative areas. It used to get into his armpits but i fixed that by putting a shirt type things under his jacket that he doesnt seem to mind. Any suggestion on something i could do to stop the snow from getting on him like that? Or how to get it off him safely? |

Our dog Molly, a Coton, with long hair loves to go out and play in the snow and gets those mini-snowballs in her hair too. When we come in, I wrap her in a large towel and use the hairdryer set on low to help melt them faster. If some snowballs seem particularly tight I have used bandage scissors to cut them off or just held them in the towel in my hand away from her body as much as possible until they melt. Of course, Molly is not always too cooperative and she sometimes wiggles away, the hairdryer is not her favorite appliance, so we keep her on surfaces that are easy to wipe up. Sometimes I think the snowballs bother me more than her although she does try to chew them away herself. Try the hairdryer it works pretty well. |

Well, when we jsut get alittle snow its not to bad. But the mre snow the more it build up. We have gotten alot of snow the past few days and yesterday, i didnt actually weigh him, but i swear he had at least two pounds on snow on him. That may be a little of an exageration but when i picked him up yu could feel the weight difference. I think it was starting interfear with his walking a bit, but he could have jsut been acting silly in the snow. Im concidering a snow suit for him, i have founf a few that i like that cover the legs of the dog, that where it mostly build up. I worry that it might be uncomfotable for him but i hate taking him out really because it jsut so hard to get all the snow off and i jsut cant get over how much pilled on him the other day. His legs looked 3 times biggger than they really are. This is though jsut something for when he goes out to play jsut going out to use the bathroom he is fine. |
