Does anyone know what an Icelandic Sheepdog is? Or does anyone own an Icelandic Sheepdog? I’d really like to know if it’s a good idea to buy or rescue this peticulair breed or breed mix. To find out how it normal temperament is.,health, etc…Thanks, Raspberries.

Icelandic Sheepdogs have a lot of wonderful traits, but they bark, and bark and bark. I have one that is 7 mos old and it is annoying the bejeebers out of me, its taking a long time to get through to him to stop, he barks at birds, at airplanes, at noises whatever, its almost a default behavior for him. Citronnella collar did not work, water in face, training. He also has a strong prey drive (which they are not supposed to have), so cats and birds and cars—wants to chase and chase and chase. Unless you are willing to work on these and have the space and no close neighbors, I suggest that you forgo the breed even though they are smart and train fast (except about barking and chasing) and are incredibly sweet and people oriented. My vet hates it when he visits, because of the barking.
